Is religious experience a link to the Divine or a trick of the mind?

The University of Wales in Lampeter houses the Religious Experience Research Centre that has records of thousands of spiritual, religious or unexplained experiences.

Many claim these experiences have rational explanations connected to brain activity while others believe they may be a genuine experience of the spiritual or divine.

  1. Trick of the mind.

End of discussion, right there, for me.

You know why the Vikings believed that clouds were the brains of gods, and why the ancient Chinese believe meteors were dragons? Because there was no plausible natural explanation, and so the people turned to supernatural means in order to satisfy their needs. That's exactly what religion has done and continues to do, satisfies people with half baked answers that they choose to believe, for reasons they can never seem to explain well.

And now science is uncovering the mystery of religious experience and the god delusion, do I think many people will accept it? Not right away, maybe we'll get there in a few hundred years. Or a few thousand.

We're getting there. Don't you ever wonder how far humanity would advance if we were to abandon all of this man made scribbling?
